4/25/2022

Who is Bojji?

Prince Bojji is the child of the mighty King Bosse known for his size, strength, and power. But, with King Bosse’s reign nearing it’s end he must have someone be his successor. Prince Bojji is the first child of King Bosse and is the next in line for the throne, however, many don’t believe that he would be a good king. Born without the ability to speak or hear, and his constant mishaps many don’t believe in his ability to maintain the throne and often call him the “Useless Prince”. While Bojji seems to be weak, he certainly has a heart of gold.

Everything keeps going wrong

Bojji is constantly battling adversity, from the moment he is introduced in the show and towards the middle of the series. The very first scene he gets mugged by a shadow creature for his clothing and returns home in his underwear while everyone laughs and points at him. This shadow creature’s name is Kage and although they met up on the wrong note, they end up becoming friends

Prejudice

Kage comes from a infamous clan of cursed humans called the shadow clan. Being a shadow, the are often employed as assassins and spies, something they have a natural affinity for due to how their body functions. Kage is introduced as a petty-thief but since he is able to understand Bojji’s speech they form a bond. They realise that the people around them judge and villify their characters based on preconceived opinions and without actually knowing either of them.

Losing a friend

Being from the Shadow Clan, the knights around Bojji’s kingdom discover him lurking around the castle and begin hunting them down. They don’t believe that he is Bojji’s friend and think Kage is going to assassinate the young prince. Kage gets captured and imprisoned in the cells of the castle, Bojji is oblivious to the matter and feels like Kage has left him after forming a strong bond.

Losing Kingship

When his father passes away, as per his wishes Bojji is granted the king of the nation. However, the queen and other high ranking knights in the kingdom make a vote to revoke his kingship and grant it to his younger brother instead. The day of the new king’s inauguration approaches and they announce that the new king will be Daida, Bojji’s younger brother. He is shocked by this announcement and immediately looks at the people around him to look for answers. They stare at the crowd and ignore him. He is immediately overcome with betrayal and begins crying and running away.

Getting betrayed

After losing his kingship, he decides he wants to go on an adventure. He is sent with a group of a very capable and strong knight who is Bojji’s guardiand and protector, and a squire that admires Bojji’s strength and courage. In their journey, they encounter many enemies, traps, and monsters. The destination for their journey was the underworld where they are trying to find a certain mentor that can train Bojji to become strong. Finally reaching the entrace to the underworld they find that it is a single hole that spews lava and fire. Bojji is initially afraid but he realise that he must enter the depths to become strong, just when Bojji looks down for a glimpse of the underworld the knight that has been protecting him throughtout his journey pushes him with a stren look on his face. Bojji plummets down the depths of the underworld only seeing the knight he once trusted look down on him.

Finding strength in weakness

When Bojji finally finds his mentor this is where things turn around. We learn about the origins of his “weaknesses”, what strength is, and Bojji’s true strength. We discover that Bojji was cursed before his birth, having his strength was stolen from him and given to King Bosse, his father. His mentor helps him discover that even though he does not any physical strength he is still able to defeat his foes by developing his own style of fighting. Bojji learns that physical strength does not matter to a truly great king and this is proven in the final battle with his own father who is depicted as the pinnacle of physical strength.

Overcoming

Bojji’s story is one of dealing with the cards you’re dealt with and overcoming it. He was born with disabilities that he was mocked and laughed for but he overcame those prejudices. Constantly being battered with adversity he maintains his smile and continues moving forward to reach his goals. He learnt that being a great king does not require you to have physical strength and that he doesn’t need to fit into the status quo to become a great king. Bojji’s story is truly an inspiring one, being born in the shadow of his father, constantly being mocked and laughed at for his supposed foolishness, and having the people around him betray his trust, he continues to move forward and achieve his goals. We learn that not matter what people think is dragging you down, with heart and determination you can pave your own path and achieve the same goals.
